Heroin Addiction Movie Candy Opens Friday, December 1

Every so often, a movie about drug addiction pops up and demands that we take notice. The movie, "Candy" about a heroin-addicted couple played by Australians Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish is just such a movie.

Heath Ledger, known for his role as the stoic cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain" and Abbie Cornish for her roles in "Somersault" and "A Good Year" play a young, married couple who stoop to new lows to feed their habits.

Begging, borrowing and stealing the couple toss self-worth aside in order to feed the beast. In one scene, Candy (played by Cornish) prostitutes herself for the first time and her husband is seemingly Okay with the purposeful infidelity.

The movie, "Candy" is based on Luke Davies' semiautobiographical book and was on the movie set in an advisory role. Instead of a movie glorifying a particular lifestyle of excess, "Candy" is more a cautionary tale conveying a strong message to the audience while entertaining at the same time.
